Job summary

The Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratory (PVDL) and the Comparative Pathology Core (CPC) seek an experienced histology technician to provide technical histology support at the Philadelphia campus. Responsibilities include trimming, embedding, sectioning, staining, instrument maintenance, and filing.

Collaboration with faculty pathologists, researchers, staff and resident trainees is expected. The ideal candidate will have an Associate of Science and 3–5 years of related experience, knowledge of tissue

Job Description Summary

The main roles of this position are to provide technical histologyto the Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratory (PVDL) and the ComparativePathology Core (CPC). The opportunities to trim fixed tissues and aid inoptimizing novel antibodies for immunohistochemistry are alsopotentially available to the right candidate. The employee willalso be integral in maintaining quality control/quality assessmentprotocols and standard operating procedures for CPC and PVDLactivities.

Job responsibilities will include:

• Tissue trimming and embedding

• Histochemical staining
• Immunohistochemical staining (auto-immunostaining instrument)as well as infrequent manual staining
• Instrument maintenance (tissue processor, autostainer,cover-slipper)
• Distribution and filing of cases, slides, and blocks.
• The opportunities to trim fixed tissues and aid in optimizingnovel antibodies for immunohistochemistry are also potentiallyavailable to the right candidate.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
