Job summary

Allied Search Partners is seeking a Permanent Histology Technician in Kern County, CA. The role requires preparing slides from tissue samples for review by the pathologist, prioritizing testing procedures, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with policies.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of histology experience, ASCP HT certification preferred, an associate degree in biology or related field, and solid computer skills.

Qualifications

• 2 – 4 years of Histology experience.
• Preferred ASCP HT Certification.
• Associate’s degree in biology or related field (Preferred).
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Strong communication skills, verbally and written.
• Manual Dexterity and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning and setup of work area including instruments, waterbath, microtome, and workbench.
• Paraffin embedding of routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens.
• Ability to produce quality sections of all paraffin embedded routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens, cutting of all levels, recuts, re-embeds and stains.
• Basic understanding of the H&E stain and ability to check H&E control for stain quality.
• Daily maintenance of the Prisma stainer and coverslipper.
• Retrieving correct tissue blocks and slides from storage areas.
• Maintain special stain control bank and cutting control blocks as needed.
• Basic understanding of Histology special stains and the associated tissue components.

Job Summary: The Histology Technician is responsible for preparing slides from tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions:

• Daily cleaning and set up of work area to include instruments, waterbath, microtome, and workbench
• Paraffin embedding of routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens.
• Ability to produce quality sections of all paraffin embedded routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens cutting of all “levels”, “recuts”, “re-embeds” and stains
• Basic understanding of the H&E stain
• Ability to check “H&E” control for stain quality
• Daily maintenance of the Prisma stainer and coverslipper
• Retrieving correct tissue blocks and slides from storage areas
• Maintain special stain control bank and cutting control blocks as needed
• Basic understanding of the H&E stain
• Ability to troubleshoot Prisma stainer issues
• Basic understanding of Histology special stains and the tissue components they stain for, use of appropriate controls.
