Job summary

Piedmont Healthcare in Columbus Midtown is seeking a Histology Tech to cut, stain and prepare tissue samples for the pathologist, ensuring accurate procedures and timely turnaround.

The successful candidate will hold a HS diploma or GED, may be a recent graduate or have limited experience, and should pursue ASCP certification; prior surgical pathology experience is valued.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Recent graduate from an accredited histology program or 1 year of technical experience in surgical pathology required.
• 3 years experience in a surgical pathology laboratory preferred.
• ASCP Histotechnologist/Histotechnician certification required or state equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Cut, stain and prepare tissue samples for pathologist review.
• Prioritize testing procedures and complete them accurately and timely.
• Maintain proper records of all tests in accordance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities:

The Histotechnician/Histotechnologist is responsible for cutting, staining and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner and maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Qualifications:

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience

• No experience required Recent graduate from an accredited histology program Required or
• In lieu of degree One (1) year of technical experience in a surgical pathology laboratory Required
• 3 years experience in a surgical pathology laboratory Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• HT - Histotechnologist - ASCP Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other acceptable agency, according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. Upon Hire Required or
• A person who recently moved into the state of Georgia or recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified as technologist or technician for eighteen (18) months only to afford the person an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination within 1-1/2 Yrs Required
