Job summary

Inova Health System in Virginia is seeking a Histology Laboratory Supervisor for the Inova Central Lab. This full-time day-shift role runs Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, overseeing the histology section.

The supervisor ensures technical and scientific standards, leads scheduling, supports budget objectives, mentors staff, and maintains quality and safety. The position emphasizes training, competency assessments, and timely delivery of results within a collaborative lab team.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree in chemical, biological, or medical lab sciences.
• Or associate's degree with 6 credit hours in chemistry, 6 credit hours in biology, and an additional 12 credit hours including any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical technology, in combination with a NAACLS Approved HT or HTL program or 3 months training in the histology laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Adhering to technical and scientific standards while serving as a clinical/technical resource and coordinating quality activities.
• Designing team member schedules and assignments to ensure the proper and timely completion of work, the health/safety of team members and the overall efficient operation of the section.
• Assists in the development of budget and financial targets and maintains personal/professional development to ensure effective job performance to contribute to organizational effectiveness.
• Oversees and assists team members in all areas of the Histology Laboratory, including ensuring the team meets key deliverables and quality standards, addressing and resolving challenges, managing and tracking performance and assisting in time management and scheduling; escalates issues to senior leaders as needed.
• Works with the team to provide training in all areas of the histology laboratory; ensures initial, semiannual, and annual competencies are completed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree in chemical, biological, or medical lab sciences, OR associate's degree with 6 credit hours in chemistry, 6 credit hours in biology, and an additional 12 credit hours including any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical technology, in combination with a NAACLS Approved HT or HTL program or 3 months training in the histology laboratory.
• Years of Experience: 5 years of experience and knowledge of Histology Laboratory practices, technical skills, advanced troubleshooting skills, strong interpersonal, communication and team building skills.
• Certifications: Histotechnologist Upon Start
