UPMC's Histology Lab is seeking a Histologist Assistant to join our fast-paced, high-volume environment in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. This full-time role supports pathologists, clinicians, and staff through the daily histology workflow, lab logistics, and patient-focused service. Shift is Daylight 5 a.m.

to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Clinical Lab Building near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. You will handle slide labeling, QA, inventory, filing, and instrument maintenance while

Responsibilities

• Act as a courteous liaison at the main desk between pathologists, clinicians, residents, and others, attentive to histology requests.
• Maintain compliance with hospital philosophy and mission to patients, physicians, visitors, and staff.
• Perform inventory of supplies and reagents and order as necessary.
• Answer telephone, direct calls, and take messages.
• Transport and manage the workflow of slides through the histology process.
• Label and organize slides, ensuring correct routing to staff.
• Perform Quality Assurance of labels and patient ID integrity.
• File blocks at end of day and maintain slide filing system.
• Monitor the fax machine.
• Daily maintenance of histology instruments and equipment.
• Comply with pathology/histology policies and procedures.
• Monitor the tube system and dispense work to technicians.
• Perform reagent preparation.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a courteous liaison at the main desk between pathologists, clinicians, residents, and others, being attentive to their requests concerning histology services.
• Assume compliance with the hospital philosophy and mission of excellence to patients, physicians, visitors, and other employees throughout all daily activities.
• Perform inventory of supplies and reagents and order as necessary.
• Answer telephone, notify appropriate personnel immediately, direct person or calls, and take messages when appropriate.
• Transport and maintain the workflow of the slides throughout the histology process.
• Organize; label all slides, making sure the slides are sent to the proper staff (Triage).
• Perform Quality Assurance of labels and slides for patient ID Integrity.
• File the blocks at the end of the day and maintain slide filing system.
• Monitor the fax machine.
• Perform daily maintenance of the Histology instruments and equipment as appropriate.
• Comply with all pathology/histology departmental and UPMC policies and procedures.
• Monitor the tube system and dispense work to the appropriate technicians.
• Perform Reagent preparation.
