Performs grossing, embedding, microtomy, special staining and processing of Immunohistochemistry slides. Has responsibility for equipment maintenance, daily quality control, and adherence to all policies. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. Reports to work at assigned UR Labs location/site.**Essential Functions:*** Performs gross sections of human tissue for examination.* Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section, and stain specimens.* Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains, as requested. Manual staining may be required.* Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives, and safety standards and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures.* Participates in the training of other technologists, technicians, and/or residents. Guides and develops professional content for learning experiences.* Examines slides under a microscope to ensure that slides meet laboratory quality standards. Identifies issues and troubleshoots for resolution.* Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to preventative, routine, and troubleshooting.* Assists in writing and updating procedures as needed.
