Job summary

Eisenhower Health is seeking a Histology Technician to prepare and stain tissue sections for microscopic interpretation by the pathologist. The role requires completion of an accredited Histologic Technique program or on-the-job training under a board-certified pathologist.

Responsibilities include embedding, sectioning, staining, and using laboratory information systems; maintaining safety standards and quality records; and assisting with supply management and routine maintenance.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Histologic Technique or one year on the job training under a Board certified Pathologist
• ASCP Histotechnician certification is preferred
• Experience in histology preferred

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and reports suspected violations.
• Processes surgical specimens per established procedures.
• Processes all necessary paperwork and reporting.
• Embeds, sections, and stains tissue for microscopic interpretation by the pathologist.
• Performs frozen sections and staining as needed.
• Utilizes Laboratory Information Systems as appropriate.
• Disinfects and maintains work areas and instrumentation.
• Performs preventative maintenance procedures.
• Complies with hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures.
• Performs general duties in grossing area as needed.
• Monitors quality control and maintains records.
• Assists in ordering, maintaining, and restocking supplies.
• Monitors block and slide storage and disposal.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
