May 08, 2025 - Accela is hiring a remote Sr Software Security Lead Engineer. Salary: competitive salary and benefits in line with local standards. Location: Costa Rica.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Lead Software Engineer supporting the Security team at Accela, Inc., you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our software applications. Your expertise will help identify and address potential security vulnerabilities and implement secure coding practices. You will lead a new Engineering team in adopting best practices for application security and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead a Scrum team, focusing on developing new features, refactoring, and improving core applications.
• Conduct comprehensive web application security evaluations, including analysis of OWASP Top Ten vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques.
• Define security requirements, lead analysis, emphasizing secure coding, vulnerability assessment, and penetration testing.
• Develop and implement remediations for vulnerabilities using security assessment tools like SAST/DAST scanners and penetration testing frameworks.
• Take ownership of key services and design complex architectural solutions.
• Guide the team in product development through Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, and Backlog Grooming.
• Define requirements, lead analysis, and grooming for Scrum deliverables.
• Perform code reviews, craft unit tests, document code, and follow software best practices.
• Collaborate with QA engineers to design and execute testing protocols.
• Build relationships across departments including QA, Development, Project Management, and UX.
• Work with architects to develop enterprise-level solutions.
• Contribute throughout the SDLC from design to deployment.
• Transform ideas into prototypes and high-quality products.
• Assess emerging technologies and third-party solutions for integration.
• Provide production support when needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, with 10+ years of professional development experience.
• Experience in application security, secure coding, vulnerability assessment, and penetration testing.
• Expertise in secure software development principles and methodologies.
• 10+ years in programming languages with knowledge of associated vulnerabilities and controls.
• Team leadership or Principal Engineer experience.
• Strong experience with Java testing frameworks like JUnit, TestNG, Mockito.
• Experience with CI/CD systems.
• Ability to coach and mentor junior team members.
• Technical leadership and decision-making skills.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Experience with source control systems like Git.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Certifications like CISSP, CEH, OSCP are a plus.
• Experience with Docker/containerization.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture/SOA.
• Experience with enterprise SaaS systems.
