We are Paramount Commerce, a leading fintech company focused on simplifying payments in Canada. Since the early 2000s, we have redefined online purchasing by introducing a way to pay directly from a bank account, bypassing credit cards or e-wallets. Our commitment is to provide the highest standards of security and risk management that support seamless payments and rich data.

As we strengthen our position in Canada, we are strategically positioning ourselves for global expansion. To achieve our goals, we are seeking talented professionals who can push the boundaries of innovation, contributing to our growth across Canada and worldwide. Join us at Paramount Commerce, where we not only follow fintech trends but shape them.

We are seeking a Senior AML & Risk Analyst to join our Compliance & Risk Management team. This Second Line of Defence role, reporting to the Head of Risk Management, plays a critical role in developing and maintaining a robust AML/ATF transaction-monitoring system. The position ensures compliance with AML/ATF and (Economic) Sanctions regulations, as well as the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA). In addition, the role is responsible for designing and optimizing risk controls, models, and strategies across our payment products to minimize fraud and financial-crime exposure.

What will you do?

  1. Transaction Monitoring & Risk Controls
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize AML/ATF transaction-monitoring and anti-fraud controls using data science techniques;
  • Define, back-test, and refine quantitative thresholds and parameters to balance detection sensitivity with false-positive rates;
  • Deploy and fine-tune controls within the transaction monitoring system and risk engine to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability;
  • Analyze emerging ML/TF and fraud patterns to design and integrate new controls within the transaction monitoring system and risk engine;
  • Continuously improve risk controls and enhance the performance of the risk engine to meet or exceed target risk KPIs;
  • Maintain thorough documentation of control designs, testing methodologies, and results to ensure audit readiness and compliance transparency.

ML/TF & Fraud Analytics

  • Develop analytical tools and dashboards to detect and assess emerging ML/TF and payment fraud typologies;
  • Monitor key risk indicators across payment products; analyze underlying drivers and propose data-informed mitigation strategies;
  • Prepare and present performance analyses, trends, and visualizations to the Compliance and Risk Management team;
  • Support AML and fraud investigations, contributing to risk reporting and ensuring timely, effective communication with cross-functional teams.

Model Development and Validation

  • Support the design, testing, implementation and maintenance of models relevant for the AML/ATF Compliance Program, e.g., Customer Risk Rating, Transaction Monitoring models;
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and deployment of machine learning models for fraud detection and mitigation;
  • Conduct independent validations of transaction monitoring and fraud detection models; document findings, recommend remediations, and monitor performance metrics;
  • Perform data lineage testing and control assessments; identify governance gaps and propose enhancements to strengthen data integrity and oversight.

Integration & Vendor Collaboration

  • Support the research, evaluation, and integration of third-party analytics tools to enhance real-time detection of ML/TF activities, sanctions violations, and payment fraud;
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and vendor teams to implement and maintain AML/ATF monitoring, sanctions screening, and reporting frameworks;
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring service-level agreements (SLAs), data quality, and performance standards are consistently met.

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience in Financial Crimes Compliance (AML/ATF/Sanctions), payment risk management, or fraud mitigation within banking, PSPs, Fintech, or consulting;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field;
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analytics frameworks;
  • Hands-on experience with AML/ATF transaction monitoring controls and/or risk rules engines;
  • Understanding of Canadian and global AML/ATF and (Economic) Sanctions legislation/regulations; experience with guidance regarding model development and testing is considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and models;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations;
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We practice ethical and fair hiring processes and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates during all aspects of the selection process.
