Job summary

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking skilled Critical Care RNs to join the CVICU team. You will provide professional nursing care in a 62-bed CVICU, aligned with patient-centered care and accepted standards.

The unit handles post open heart recovery, ECMO, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring. Shift options include day and night 12-hour shifts; orientation and residency programs support new graduates; tuition reimbursement and certification incentives are offered.

Qualifications

• BLS certification (AHA/Red Cross).
• ACLS certification required for experienced RN; complete by end of orientation for the novice Critical Care RN.
• Basic Arrhythmia test must be completed within 90 days of hire.
• Proficient with common computer applications (MS Office, electronic health records).

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care in CVICU using patient-centered care.
• Support post Open Heart recovery and advanced cardiovascular patients with complex assessments.

Job Summary

Welcome to our Critical Care Nursing Department! Provides professional and skilled nursing care to patients using the "patient centered care" model of SMHCS (policy 126.054) in accordance with the ANA and AACN’s Standards of Professional Practice. We are a 62 bed unit with 3 areas of specialties that you can work in.

CVICU: Patient Population

Patient Population: patients with a primary diagnosis of advanced cardiovascular disease requiring complex nursing assessment skills and care including but not limited to:

• Post Open Heart Surgical patient recovery
• Cardiac Arrest
• Left Ventricular Assist Device Care: Impella & IABP
• ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation)
• Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring
• Titration of vasoactive medications (inotropes, vasopressors, vasodilators)
• Opportunities for Novice and Experienced Nurses:
• Individualized orientation
• Nurse Residency for all new graduates with the implementation of ECCO (essentials of critical care orientation)
• Tuition Reimbursement
• Opportunities for paid certification and incentivized pay including but not limited to CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse), TCAR
• Critical Care Internship with knowledge base lecture series provided in the department
• No new grads being hired for CVICU at this time.

Required Qualifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support); required for experienced RN, has to be completed by end of orientation for the novice Critical Care RN
• Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test within 90 days of date of hire
• BSN requirement within 5 years of date of hire for the ASN candidate
• Required basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification upon hire.
• Prefer certification in nursing specialty area.
