Job summary

Synstack Technologies in New York, NY is seeking an Electrical Engineer to sustain and test hardware for consumer electronics products. The role focuses on hard-won reliability and seamless integration with firmware teams.

You will own ECOs, manage component lifecycles, perform 8D investigations, and drive permanent resolutions with cross-functional teams.

Bachelor's is required (Master's preferred); 4+ years in hardware development or test engineering in a manufacturing setting are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years in hardware sustaining engineering, product engineering, or test engineering.
• Experience with consumer electronics hardware manufacturing is a plus.
• Strong reading of datasheets, lifecycle management, and component qualification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct full BoM scrubs to identify at-risk components and suggest alternatives.
• Perform Change Impact Analysis on component changes with risk ratings.
• Author and execute ECO packages including updated schematics and layouts.
• Coordinate with firmware teams to validate hardware configurations.
• Lead 8D Failure Analysis investigations with containment and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and design teams for permanent resolutions.

Ideal candidate profile:

4 8 years in hardware/EE with hands-on component engineering experience in consumer electronics or wearables. Bonus if they've worked in an NPI (New Product Introduction) environment where they've seen products go from prototype to mass production.

We're looking to bring on an Electrical Engineering resource(s) for our System Validation team.

What You Will Do

• Conduct full Bill of Materials (BoM) scrubs to identify at-risk and End-of-Life (EOL) components; recommend and qualify alternate components.
• Perform documented Change Impact Analysis (CIA) on component changes, evaluating form, fit, and function impacts with associated risk ratings.
• Author and execute complete ECO packages including updated schematics, PCB layouts, CAD models, and validation plans.
• Coordinate with firmware/software teams to validate releases against hardware configurations.
• Conduct 8D Failure Analysis investigations including containment actions, root-cause identification, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
• Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and design teams to drive permanent resolution of field and production failures.

What You Will Bring

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).

Experience:

4+ years of experience in hardware sustaining engineering, product engineering, or test engineering in a consumer electronics or hardware manufacturing environment.

Skills & Competencies

• Must Have: Electronic Component Engineering. This person should be an expert at working with individual electronic parts (chips, resistors, capacitors, connectors, sensors, etc.) that go onto a circuit board. Specifically, Reading & interpreting datasheets, Component lifecycle management and Component selection & qualification
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence OrCAD, or equivalent)
• Experience with CAD/3D modeling tools for electromechanical design
• Strong understanding of electronic component specifications, datasheets, and lifecycle management
• Familiarity with firmware/hardware integration and embedded systems
• Understanding of quality tools: 8D, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, 5-Why analysis
• Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-2221/2222, IPC-A-610, IPC-7351, IPC J-STD-001)for PCB design and manufacturing
• Experience with PLM/PDM systems and formal change management processes
• Experience with DFM/DFT (Design for Manufacturing/Test) principles.
