Job summary

BrightStar Care - Cleveland West seeks a compassionate Caregiver/Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to an adult with developmental disabilities in both the home and community setting.

The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, and experienced with routines, communication support, and close supervision in community settings. Shifts include afternoons, evenings, and overnight options in the Mayfield Area, OH.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year caregiving, DSP, or behavioral support experience preferred.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
• Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray.
• Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one support in the home and community.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care.
• Support participation in recreational, fitness, and community activities.
• Assist with meal preparation following dietary guidelines.
• Encourage independence and participation in household tasks.
• Use routines and positive reinforcement to support transitions.
• Assist with communication using verbal prompts and assistive devices when needed.
• Maintain documentation and follow care plans.
• Collaborate with family and care team.

Caregiver / Direct Support Professional (DSP) | Developmental Disabilities Support

• Mayfield Area, OH
• Hourly
• Part Time, Full Time

Location : Eastside Cuyahoga County (Mayfield Area)

Shifts Available (Specific schedules to be discussed during the interview process.)

• Afternoons
• Evenings
• Overnight availability is highly preferred
• Based on experience

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one support in the home and community
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, bathing, and personal care
• Support participation in recreational, fitness, and community-based activities
• Assist with meal preparation while following dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines
• Encourage participation in household tasks and independent living skills
• Utilize visual schedules, routines, and positive reinforcement strategies
• Support communication using verbal prompts and communication technology when appropriate
• Provide close supervision in the community to ensure safety
• Support successful transitions between activities and changes in routine
• Utilize approved calming, redirection, and de-escalation techniques when neededMonitor for safety concerns and immediately report significant observations
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow individualized care plans
• Collaborate closely with family members and the care team

Ideal Candidate Experience

• Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
• Experience with behavior support, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavior supports preferred
• Experience implementing structured routines, visual schedules, and task-based supports
• Experience supporting individuals who use alternative or assistive communication methods preferred
• Experience providing community-based support and supervision
• Experience working independently in a home setting
• Overnight caregiving experience is a plus

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least one year of caregiving, DSP, behavioral support
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray
• Valid Driver's License
• Reliable Transportation and Proof of Insurance
• Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients safely
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations
• Ability to work independently while following established support plans
• Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and dignity

Preferred:

• HHA, STNA, CNA, DSP, Nursing Assistant, or related training
