Job description

Jun 06, 2025 - Top Hat is hiring a remote Associate Platform Engineer. Location: Canada.

We’re looking for an engineer experienced with SRE practices to join our Core Platform team. The primary goal of this team is to improve our software delivery performance and availability by driving DevOps culture, tools, and practices across the engineering department. Besides the impact of your contributions, this role offers mentorship opportunities for teams learning to build and operate their own services.

You will:

  1. Scale continuous deployment practices across the engineering department, enabling teams to ship software reliably, frequently, with minimal trouble. You will work with tools, infrastructure, processes, and practices to promote DevOps (end-to-end production ownership within each cross-functional team).
  2. Extend our reusable service template and its CI/CD tooling.
  3. Lead efforts to mature our cloud infrastructure and platform offerings as our business grows.
  4. Help mature production observability practices by defining SLIs, managing SLOs, and helping teams achieve them.
  5. Maintain and extend our internal developer-friendly CLI.
  6. Operate and support platform-level shared services like CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and monitoring.
  7. Coach product teams on operational ownership and teach blameless root cause analysis.
  8. Participate in support rotations.

You are:

  1. An advocate for DevOps practices and principles, ready to execute on the vision.
  2. Knowledgeable in cloud infrastructure and networking (AWS, GCP, Terraform) to design and operate cloud services.
  3. Experienced with CI/CD tooling (Github Actions, Jenkins) and maintaining large multi-stage pipelines.
  4. Hands-on with configuration automation (e.g., Terraform), Docker, and observability tools (Honeycomb). We are fully on AWS but exploring GCP.
  5. A collaborative team player capable of working with others and independently managing projects.
  6. Bonus: Application development experience or operational roles involving coding, with proficiency in languages like Python.
