Job description

Apr 20, 2025 - Kojo is hiring a remote Accounting Manager. Salary: dependent on experience and market dynamics. Location: Canada.

About Kojo

It's time to build. Whether it's creating more housing, upgrading our infrastructure, or adapting to climate change, one thing is clear: the construction industry is at the center of solving our biggest problems. We’re making buildings cheaper and easier to build by transforming the way commercial construction companies buy their materials. Join us.

Founded in 2018, Kojo is now one of the fastest-growing construction technology companies in the world. Construction accounts for $10 trillion in global spend annually and we can’t live without its output - our roads, schools, hospitals, and offices. Despite this, there’s been very little innovation over the past 70 years in how materials - which constitute up to 40% of project costs - are bought and sold. This is our opportunity.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our dynamic finance team. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical accounting skills and hands-on experience in managing day-to-day financial operations, including payroll. You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, overseeing payroll, and supporting the company’s financial reporting and compliance efforts.

As the Accounting Manager at Kojo Technologies, you will play a critical role in maintaining the company’s financial integrity, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and payroll regulations, and providing accurate financial data to senior management for strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees and contractors, including calculating wages, deductions, bonuses, and benefits, while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Assist with monthly close process helping to prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Reconcile accounts, including payroll-related accounts, tax liabilities, employee benefits, and deductions.
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records for all employees, ensuring compliance with applicable labor laws and tax regulations.
  • Complete monthly sales tax reconciliation and oversee sales tax return filing by Avalara.
  • Oversee invoice collections to ensure customers pay their invoices in a timely manner.
  • Provide financial reports to senior management as needed.
  • Work closely with external auditors during the annual audit process to ensure the accuracy of payroll, tax filings, and related financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, tax filings, and employment laws, including regular payroll tax filings and reports.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance within the accounting and payroll functions.
  • Assist in special projects as needed, such as system upgrades, automation initiatives, and process optimization.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, including payroll management experience.
  • Experience with US payroll processing, including a thorough understanding of US federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and filings. International applicants must have experience managing US payroll compliance and tax filings for US-based employees.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, payroll processing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Rippling, or similar) and Microsoft Excel. Experience with Rippling ideal.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, growing environment with a proactive mindset.
  • Experience in international payroll including Canada and LatAm is a plus but not required.
