Senior Library Technician (Children’s Services)

TITLE : Senior Library Technician (Children’s Services)

DEPARTMENT : Hingham Public Library

STATUS : Part-time, with benefits : 24 hours / week average.

HOURS : Schedule includes some days and evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays as scheduled by the Assistant Library Director. Schedule subject to change throughout the year.

SALARY : $28.45 - $34.58 per hour (Grade L-8) in five annual steps.

DUTIES : The Hingham Public Library seeks a friendly and welcoming customer service oriented individual to assist us in providing Circulation and Children’s Services to customers of all ages, with a particular emphasis on Children’s Services. Work involves performing specialized services for various divisions within the Library, where the duties are of similar complexity and responsibility, but where the actual work tasks are apt to be somewhat different. Duties may include supervising Library Technicians, Pages, adult and junior volunteers, preparing and presenting story times and special programs designed for children and young adults, advising patrons of appropriate reading materials for children and young adults, performing circulation duties such as providing information and assistance to patrons at service desks, checking out library materials and processing returns, assisting with collection development and maintenance, shelving library materials, running and processing reports, and responding to inquiries, requests, and complaints. The individual will work in various library departments including Children’s, Circulation, and Technology services. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS : A candidate for this position should have an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of related experience, preferably in a library or educational setting working with children, or equivalent education or experience.
