Job summary

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital seeks a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II in PRN status for weekend shifts (Sat-Sun, 7am–5pm). You will review discharge records for completeness and classify them for provider completion in accordance with laws and hospital standards.

Ideal candidates have strong verbal and written communication, basic computer skills, and medical terminology knowledge, with 2 years HIM experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years hospital HIM experience preferred.
• Experience with discharge records and release of information is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review discharge records for completeness and accuracy.
• Classify records and assign responsibility to appropriate services.
• Assist providers with deficiencies and follow-up in the mismatch queues.
• Support in suspension processes and notifications to providers.
• Assist clinicians with questions about record completion (Cerner).
• Process requests for records and release of information.

About the Job

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is currently seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II to join the team in a PRN (Per Diem) status to work weekends, Saturday and Sunday 7am - 5pm.

The HIM Specialist II is responsible for reviewing discharge records for completeness. Classifies records and assigns responsibility to appropriate medical service and provider for completion. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Applies rules, regulations and policies of the Medical Staff or individual departments when analyzing incomplete records for deficiency.
• Works and completes the analysis task queues on a daily basis.
• Assist providers when problems arise following assignment of deficiencies including daily monitoring of Physician Refusal Inbox.
• Assist in suspension process according to policy and procedure. Contact provider offices to follow-up prior to actual suspension dates. Handle removing providers from suspension status (notifications system updates etc)
• Serves as a resource for clinicians with questions regarding completion of deficiencies in the electronic record (including Cerner message center)
• Assist providers on dictation and transcription problems.
• Answers phone requests for records or assists with release of information as applicable.
• Prepares records and logs for offsite storage.
• Places orders and requests records and microfilm stored off-site. Ensures the return of records to the off-site storage company.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

• 2 years of work experience required; preferably in hospital health information management required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Excellent Verbal and written communication skills;
• Basic computer skills required;

This position has a hiring range of

USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
