Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of all HIM processes including chart completion, integrity of the medical record, release of information, and scanning.
  • Identify changes to policy, productivity, and quality measures and ensure staff performance meets standards.
  • Evaluate staff performance annually and ensure productivity and quality targets are met.
  • Prepare and approve work schedules and time cards; represent HIM in meetings as directed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

A Brief Overview

The HIM Operations Supervisor leads the Health Information Management (HIM) Operations team, overseeing daily workflows and administrative functions related to the health record. This role is responsible for managing operational performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting excellent customer service, and driving efficient, high-quality HIM operations.

The supervisor partners closely with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to resolve workflow issues, improve processes, and ensure the medical record remains complete, accurate, and accessible.

What you will do
  • The HIM Operations Supervisor will provide oversight and guidance of all processes and HIM staff related to chart completion, integrity of the medical record, release of information, and scanning.
  • Identifies and implements changes regarding policy, productivity, and quality measures and assures that staff performance meets expectations.
  • Evaluate staff performance on an annual basis. Accurately measures and evaluates staff performance, productivity and quality measures and assures that staff follows and meets departmental standards.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks such as preparing and approving work schedules and time cards.
  • Represents Health Information Management and attends meetings as directed.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by management.
Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Associate's degree in healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field Preferred
  • Master's Degree Masters degree in Healthcare, Information Technology, Business, or related field strongly preferred Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • At least five (5) years HIM experience Required and
  • At least two (2) years Experience progressively leading teams Required
  • At least one (1) year Cures Act and HIPAA Privacy Rules experience Preferred
  • At least four (4) years Leadership experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Epic proficiency (Required proficiency)
  • Microsoft Office skills (Required proficiency)
  • OnBase proficiency (Preferred proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - upon hire - Required or
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - upon hire - Required
  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • EPIC certification - EPIC - upon hire - Preferred
