Job Description

Atlantic Health System is seeking a HIM Inpatient Coder. Remote. This full-time, day shift role runs from 8AM to 4PM.

1. Codes inpatient records, capturing all diagnoses, POA indicators, and procedures; validates key UHDDS elements; abstracts pertinent information to accurately reflect the patient's encounter.
2. Reviews CDI concurrent review notes and collaborates with the CDI Team to ensure optimal code capture on all cases, ensuring compliance with CMS policies and Official Coding Guidelines for proper reimbursement.
3. Implements AHS physician query process when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
4. Completes coding of all discharges/encounters, meeting a minimum productivity of 10 cases per day and maintaining a 95% accuracy rate. Assignments include Inpatient acute care, Inpatient Psych, Inpatient Hospice, and Newborn.
5. Monitors the Coding Priority WQ throughout the day to clear cases daily.
6. Ensures cases are not on any WQ for more than 3 days.
7. Stays updated on coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
8. Works with assigned Lead to review coding questions, participate in feedback sessions, and attends all coding meetings.
9. Raises concerns to leadership as needed.
10. Adheres to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by AHIMA.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CCS certification from AHIMA.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRGs.
• Understanding of Anatomy & Physiology, disease processes, and pathology.
• 2-5 years of coding experience in ICD-10 and DRGs.
• EPIC and CAC experience is beneficial.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
