Qualifications

  • Current RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital outpatient coding experience involving ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, ambulatory surgery, observation cases, and medical record abstracting.
  • Current AHIMA continuing education certification records required, when applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret outpatient medical records to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes with the highest level of specificity for ambulatory surgery, observation, special procedures, ED, ancillary, and clinic encounters.
  • Code primarily complex ambulatory surgery and observation cases while maintaining a minimum coding accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Abstract required clinical and demographic information into the EHR to support billing and reporting.
  • Submit physician queries to clarify documentation and collaborate with clinical documentation specialists to ensure accurate coding.
  • Identify documentation concerns, report risk management issues, and stay current on coding regulations, payer guidelines, and industry updates.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

  • Pay: $35.00-$40.00/hour
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Employment Type: W2

ROLE IMPACT
Support accurate reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and quality reporting by reviewing outpatient medical records and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes. Success in this role is measured by coding accuracy, productivity, effective provider communication, and adherence to coding guidelines and documentation standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and interpret outpatient medical records to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes with the highest level of specificity for ambulatory surgery, observation, special procedures, emergency department, ancillary, and clinic encounters.
  • Code primarily complex ambulatory surgery and observation cases while maintaining a minimum coding accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Abstract required clinical and demographic information into the electronic health record to support billing and reporting.
  • Submit physician queries to clarify documentation and collaborate with clinical documentation specialists to ensure accurate coding.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification required.
