Job summary

NHC HealthCare St. Charles is seeking an HIM Assistant to support the Health Information Technician in clerical duties and medical record keeping. The role focuses on accurate documentation, EHR maintenance, and collaboration with staff to ensure complete patient records.

The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years in health information, relevant certifications, and strong attention to detail. This full-time position is based at NHC HealthCare St. Charles in Missouri.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in Health Information preferred.
• Certification of CCS, CCA, or CPC-A preferred.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to type and understand Medical Record Systems; understand ICD-10-CM and coding principles.

Responsibilities

• Ensure upon admission that the Admission Summary Sheet is properly filled out and preliminary forms are initiated.
• Determine upon admission if additional transfer data is needed and obtain missing information.
• Ensure patient medical record number is on armband and other required information.
• Check the EHR on admission and periodically for completeness and accuracy.
• Update the EHR with medical staff and other departments; interact with regional support staff.
• Maintain flow of reports to the EHR and scan documents.
• QA all forms scanned into the EHR and update as needed.

NHC HealthCare St. Charles is looking for an HIM (Medical Records) Assistant to join our team! The position assists the Health Information Technician/Practitioner of the center with clerical and other duties established for the medical record keeping practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-3 years of previous experience working in the field of Health Information preferred.
• Certification of CCS, CCA, or CPC-A preferred.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Be able to type and understand the Medical Record Systems, including filing. Understand and utilize medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, coding principles, concurrent and Discharge Analysis Procedures, scanning and attention to detail.
• Possess personal attributes to include professionalism, neatness, accuracy, articulates pleasantly and cooperative with all staff.

Position Highlights

• Ensure upon admission of patients that the Admission Summary Sheet is properly and completely filled out and any preliminary forms are initiated.
• Determine upon admission of patients whether additional transfer data is needed and obtain missing information.
• Make sure that patient’s medical record number is on the patient armband, in addition to the other required information.
• Check the EHR quantitatively on admission and periodically (once per month minimum) to assure completeness, accuracy, and internal consistency.
• Communicate with and assist the medical staff and alias health personnel in updating the EHR. Interact with other departments, physicians, administrator, and regional support staff.
• Maintain flow of reports to the EHR – scan into.
• QA all forms that are scanned into the EHR and update as needed.
