Job summary

Stellantis seeks a HIL / xIL Development Engineer to support Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, plant model development, and system integration across MIL, SIL, and HIL environments for powertrain validation including ICE, HEV, and BEV applications.

The role collaborates with software, controls, calibration, and systems engineering teams to develop, integrate, and troubleshoot simulation environments for vehicle programs and cross-region deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years automotive HiL experience.
  • MBE/Powertrain MB Development with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow/SimScape.
  • Knowledge of ICE, HEV, BEV powertrains.
  • Experience with HIL systems (dSPACE, ETAS, NI).
  • C/C++ code generation.
  • 1-D modeling tools (GT Power, AMESim).
  • dSpace Scalexio harness & wiring knowledge.
  • CAN/SP I/LIN, Flash bootloader integration.
  • UDS/XCP protocols.
  • ETAS INCA for trace/data acquisition.
  • Strong communication & cross-functional teamwork.
  • Self-starter.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and reduce plant models for HIL applications and maintain a reusable model library.
  • Integrate models across MIL, SIL, and HIL environments.
  • Configure and commission HIL simulators for vehicle-specific applications.
  • Collaborate with software, controls, calibration, and systems teams on requirements.
  • Troubleshoot HIL simulation and integration issues during commissioning.
  • Support ECU hardware interface definition and harness design.
  • Benchmark and evaluate new HIL technologies, and improve processes and tools.
  • Work with global engineering teams across NA, EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions.

Job description

Stellantis is seeking a HIL / xIL Development Engineer to support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems, plant model development, and system integration across MIL, SIL, and HIL environments. This role plays a critical part in accelerating validation for powertrain systems including ICE, HEV, & BEV applications. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with software, controls, calibration, and systems engineering teams to develop, integrate, and troubleshoot simulation environments for vehicle programs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and reduce plant models for HIL applications and maintain a reusable model library
  • Integrate models across MIL, SIL, and HIL environments
  • Configure and commission HIL simulators for vehicle-specific applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, controls, calibration, systems engineering) on requirements and integration
  • Troubleshoot and resolve HIL simulation and integration issues during commissioning
  • Support ECU hardware interface definition and electrical harness design
  • Perform benchmarking, evaluate new HIL technologies, and improve development processes and tools
  • Work with global engineering teams across NA, EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive industry and Hardware in Loop/HiL
  • Experience with plant and controller modeling, simulation, development and testing.
  • Experience in Model Based Development on any Powertrain Application, preferred Matlab-Simulink/Stateflow/SimScape
  • Knowledge and experience with Powertrain ICE, HEV and BEV systems
  • Demonstrated Hardware- In-the-Loop systems experience (dSPACE, ETAS, NI HIL systems)
  • Experience with C/C++ code generation
  • Experience with 1-D physical modeling tools such as GT Power, AMESim and co-simulation tools
  • Hands on experience with the dSpace Simulators (Scalexio), Harness design, implementation, Electrical Loads etc
  • Experience with HIL electrical/ wiring harness, load box design, implementation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Knowledge of CAN stack, SPI, LIN and Flash bootloader integration
  • Knowledge in diagnostic management: CANalyzer, CANoe
  • Knowledge of Simulation Tool (e.g. CarMaker, ASM)
  • Knowledgeexperience with UDS, XCP protocol
  • Familiarity using trace capture tools, data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS - INCA
  • Outstanding interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to work directly with individuals and groups
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-starter who can work cross-functionally with other people
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Detailed knowledge about ICE, Hybrid and BEV applications
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and specific simulation software
  • Good working experience with dSpace Simulators, Hardware design and implementation
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of management
