Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies in Irvine, CA, is seeking an on-site HIL Engineer to design, develop, and maintain HIL test systems for embedded vehicle controllers. You will validate control behavior, ensure design compliance, and collaborate with subsystem and firmware teams to improve test coverage.

The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and 3+ years' HIL experience, with hands-on practice in DSPACE, NI VeriStand, CAN tools, and Python testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical & electronics engineering or related
• 3+ years of experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop test systems or tools such as DSPACE and NI VeriStand
• 2+ years in embedded control systems or HIL technologies with safety knowledge
• Ability to perform rapid root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Proficiency with CAN, CAN-FD, CAN over Ethernet, LIN, XCP, and FlexRay

Responsibilities

• Design & develop HIL test systems for embedded vehicle controllers
• Set up and maintain HIL infrastructure and conduct tests to validate control behavior
• Collaborate with subsystem and firmware engineers to meet design specs
• Work with platform teams to simulate specifications on HILs
• Lead hardware failure analysis and document lessons learned
• Propose improvements to HIL infrastructure to increase test coverage
• Evaluate HIL hardware APIs with firmware engineers
