Job summary

Ford in Dearborn, MI seeks a Hardware-in-the-Loop Engineer to develop and execute automated tests using HiL equipment, document results, and track software updates to drive issue resolution.

Collaborate with feature owners, engineering, and suppliers to design test strategies, analyze requirements, and maintain test environments with robust automation and vehicle-variant handling. Hybrid work option.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+ Years of automotive software development or validations.
  • 5+ Years of software development life cycle experience (CMMI and Agile).
  • 5+ Years of software testing or QA methodologies.
  • 3+ Years of validation support for dSPACE or NI HIL simulators.
  • 3+ Years of dSPACE control and automation desk software.
  • 3+ Years of ADAS/DAT feature testing support.
  • 2+ Years of SAFe implementation at enterprise scale.
  • Functional understanding of ASPICE and ISO26262.

Responsibilities

  • Single point of contact for the test organization and stakeholders.
  • Manage the test project for assigned features including integration, scope, time, communications, and risk.
  • Develop/expand testing scope.
  • Define test scope and instrumentation strategies.
  • Analyze requirements, vehicle components electrical schematics, functional specs, and DFMEA.
  • Design, maintain, and execute test procedures in line with guidelines.
  • Document test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management requirements.
  • Implement and validate test environment, automation, and variant management solutions.
  • Develop test procedures to validate the test environment (intake tests).
  • Analyze test results, generate reports, and drive incidents to resolution.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems and test environment to minimize false positives.
  • Implement continuous improvement in test design, management, and execution.

In this position...

The Hardware in the Loop (HiL) Engineer supports the product development and system integration processes by developing test procedures for automated execution, implementing tests using Hardware in the Loop equipment, documenting and reviewing execution reports, reporting incidents/bugs, and tracking software updates to fix issues.

This role requires close collaboration with feature owners, engineering, and suppliers to develop a strong understanding of the vehicle functions and implement appropriate test design strategies for early identification of defects and to provide evidence of defect elimination.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

Single point of contact for the test organization and the feature owner, engineering team, and supplier

Manage the test project for the assigned features including integration/definition, scope/coverage, time, communications, and risk

Develop/expand testing scope

Support the tradeoff analysis of test requirements vs test environment capabilities to define test scope and instrumentation strategies

Analyze requirements, vehicle components electrical schematics, functional specifications, and DFMEA documentation

Design, maintain and execute test procedures in alignment with test design guidelines and strategy

Document test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management requirements

Implement and validate test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management solutions

Develop test procedures to validate the test environment (intake tests)

Analyze test execution results to generate reports, document incidents, and drive them to resolution

Troubleshoot vehicle systems and test environment functionality to minimize false positive incident reports

Implement continuous improvement strategies for test design, management, and execution processes

Qualifications

You'll have...

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent

5+ Years of experience in automotive software development or validations.

5+ Years of experience in software development life cycle - CMMI and agile process experience.

5+ Years of experience utilizing software testing or quality assurance methodologies

3+ Years of experience in validation support of dSPACE or NI HIL simulators

3+ Years of experience in dSPACE control and automation desk software.

3+ Years of experience in ADAS/DAT feature testing support

2+ Years of experience using Scaled Agile Framework SAFE implementing agile practices and setting up SW development workflows at an enterprise scale.

Functional understanding of ASPICE SW development process and ISO26262 functional safety standard.

3+ Years of experience in distributed feature testing experience

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $99,600-$166,600.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
