The South Carolina Department of Transportation in District 5 advertises a Bridge Maintenance Worker re-advertisement. The role requires operating heavy equipment, performing bridge repairs, rigging, signaling, carpentry, and assisting with layout and measurements.

Operates specialized equipment that may include but is not limited to snooper truck and boom truck for use in the removal, construction, and maintenance of bridges in District 5.
Performs crane rigging and signaling duties to ensure loads moved by crane are safe and properly secured.
Performs various skilled labor for bridge repairs including but not limited to concrete spall repair, bridge joint repairs, pile repair, bridge rail repair, etc. Operates common power tools i.e. drills, chainsaws, etc. Constructs wood forms and perform other miscellaneous carpentry projects.
Performs skilled bridge maintenance worker functions and operates heavy equipment to include but is not limited to backhoe and excavators.
Assists in the operation of levels, laser levels, grade rods, etc., in the layout of construction and maintenance projects.
Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
Operates hydraulically operated bridge scaffold and tractor trailer 5th wheel combination (varying manual transmissions and trailer styles) for use in the maintenance of bridges in District 5.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
