Job description

Serves as Crew Foreman supervising various construction, repair, and preservation activities of roads and bridges within Spartanburg County. Ensures employees within the crew complete all CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating CDL vehicles. Conducts necessary general training for subordinates. Performs inspections of the roads in the state highway system, identifying deficiencies and entering them into the work request system. Plans and schedules routine and preventative maintenance activities. Investigates citizens' work requests, prioritizing and scheduling necessary work. Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records. Recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures. Rates employees annually according to the Employee Performance Management System. Manages assigned crew(s) in emergency and inclement weather operations, which may include extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The physical demands for the essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working near traffic, and in natural environmental hazards are required. May need to work outside normal hours, especially during inclement weather.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Three and a half (3.5) years of related work experience or an approved equivalent. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
