The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to operate herbicide equipment and trucks within District 6. You will collect and verify data for HMMS, perform safety analyses, and participate in safety meetings.

Responsibilities include setting up work zones, CDL pre-trip inspections, and aiding in maintenance and emergency responses. A valid SC CDL and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months are required, along with one year of related experience

Competenze

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

• Operate herbicide application equipment and herbicide truck along roads and bridges within District 6 per the IRVM plan.
• Provide data to the Herbicide Crew Leader or Foreman for HMMS entry; perform quality control checks on reports.

Job Responsibilities

Operates herbicide application equipment and herbicide truck in accordance to the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management (IRVM) plan, performing herbicide activities along roads and bridges within District 6. Provides data to the Herbicide Crew Leader or Foreman to be entered in the Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) for the operation of equipment. Performs Quality Control checks on the data to ensure accuracy of the reports. Assists in completing job hazard analysis forms to mitigate risks and participates in safety meetings prior to the commencement of work activities informing the crew of the hazards associated with the work to be performed. Places traffic control devices to properly set up maintenance work zones according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists. Completes all CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating CDL vehicles. Participates in assigned training for employees. Assists in gathering data for daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records. Performs routine and preventive maintenance activities. Assists in emergencies removing fallen trees, snow, ice from highways and bridges caused by hazardous weather. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
