Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Transportation seeks an Equipment Operator to support highway maintenance. You will operate a standard dump truck and assist in setting up traffic control for work zones.

Responsibilities include road and bridge repairs within the state system, emergency and inclement weather support, and possible extended hours or night shifts. A CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement; a valid license is required at entry.

Qualifications

• No formal education or previous experience is required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry.

Responsibilities

• Operates a standard dump truck and assists with traffic control for maintenance work zones.
• Performs manual labor repairing roads and bridges within the state system.
• Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations; extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts may occur.
• May work outside normal weekly hours during hazardous weather or emergencies.
