Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.

Minimum Requirements:
Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1:
Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination and drug test*, and possess a Class D Driver License.
Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:
Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination* and drug test; and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction. Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to satisfactorily operate a NYSDOT large dump truck within two weeks of appointment. Failure to pass will result in termination.
Highway Maintenance Worker 1:
Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader. Within the first two weeks of employment, applicant must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification or their employment will be terminated.
NOTE: All candidates must pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination* and drug test prior to beginning employment. Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.
*Candidates who meet both of the following MAY be eligible to bypass the pre-employment physical: A valid CDL A or B AND a current (less than 2 years old) CDL Medical Certificate (form MCSA 5876) that meets specific criteria which will be discussed at the time of interview.
