Job summary

The Idaho Transportation Department in Coeur d'Alene is seeking a Transportation Technician Apprentice – Highway Maintenance. This paid apprenticeship runs 3–5 years with on-the-job and classroom training, progressing through pay steps as milestones are met.

Starting at $21.05–$21.55 per hour with potential increases after each step, the role requires a valid license and CDL within 60 days, plus training support for licensing.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license is required.
• Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions is preferred.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 60 days of hire and pass driving record checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level traffic services such as snow plowing, striping, and replacing/repairing traffic signs and posts.
• Perform entry-level technical highway maintenance and engineering work.
• Operate power tools and light/heavy highway equipment to maintain roadways, signs, bridges and facilities.
• Conduct routine inspections and field tests on construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct sample and routine material testing.
• Work in all weather conditions, on congested highways, around operating equipment, and in noisy environments.
