Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician - CDL Driver / Equipment Operator in Shelby. The role involves operating trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance, culvert work, sealing, vegetation management, and snow control.

A career ladder with advancement opportunities is available. The position requires a valid Montana Class A, Type II CDL with a tank endorsement and MEC.

Qualifications

• Requires one year of experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment.
• Two years of documented road maintenance experience preferred.
• Three+ years of related highway maintenance experience may qualify for higher levels.
• Must have Montana Class A Type II CDL with tank endorsement and MEC.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance tasks.
• Perform culvert placement, cleaning, and related repairs.
• Conduct crack/mastic sealing, fence building, and sign/guardrail installation.
• Provide snow and ice control and vegetation maintenance as needed.
• Work as laborer, lead worker or equipment operator on a team.
