If you have a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License that allows operation in Colorado and are passionate about safety, travel, and hands-on repair and improvements, then consider turning your passions into a career as a Highway Maintenance Specialist. CDOT has a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Lake County, CO.

Locations can include:

  • Leadville, 629 US Highway 24
  • Twin Lakes, 984 Highway 82

Total annual compensation for this position is $58,356 ($52,356 base pay and $6,000 housing stipend). Base pay is $2013.69 biweekly ($52,356 annually), with 26 pay periods per year. Additionally, there is a $500/month housing stipend.

Description of Job

What You Will Do

No two days are exactly the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Your activities will vary based on project needs, weather, and road conditions. You will be on-call and respond to weather and emergencies. Your main activities include:

  • Plowing snow
  • Operating heavy equipment
  • Mowing grass and weeds
  • Removing debris from roadways and culverts
  • Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
  • Digging ditches
  • Installing and repairing guardrails, signs, and lighting
  • Filling potholes and cracks
  • Setting out traffic control signs and cones
  • Removing graffiti
  • Installing pavement markings
  • Responding to emergencies and maintaining equipment

Work Environment

Minimum Qualifications & Conditions

Must have at least 2 years of physical labor or heavy equipment experience. Valid CDL Class A or B with no restrictions on air brakes required. Must pass background checks, drug tests, and physical exams. Willingness to work in extreme weather and respond to emergencies is essential.
