Based in Madison, Wisconsin, HDR offers a collaborative environment that values diverse perspectives and hands‑on impact. As a roadway engineer, you will design with Civil3D, OpenRoads Designer, InfraWorks and related CAD tools, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and professional licensure (PE) recognized by the licensing board.
  • 3+ years of roadway engineering design experience, including urban and rural interchanges.
  • Hands-on experience with highways CAD software such as Bentley, OpenRoads Designer, InfraWorks, and Civil3D; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a technical role under a Project Manager on the engineering development of urban and rural highway/roadway projects
  • Oversee the work of CAD Designers, and junior staff
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs for roadway and highway projects
  • Grow as a leader providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff
  • Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Learn from senior staff to help grow your knowledge and expertise
  • Assist with project management responsibilities as Deputy PM (Optional)
  • Other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Civil3D Design and Modeling Experience
  • WisDOT Process Knowledge
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng)
  • Hands‑on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation, Open Roads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • Strong commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture
