Job summary

CDM Smith’s New England Transportation team is seeking a Task Leader for highway design projects in the New England region. The role can be based in Boston, MA, East Hartford, CT, or Manchester, NH, guiding technical excellence, mentoring junior staff, and delivering innovative transportation solutions.

The position emphasizes project leadership, design development, and collaboration with Project Leaders to meet client requirements while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the FE exam within 18 months of hire.
• 5 years of related experience; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate highway design project technical progress.
• Provide day‑to‑day oversight of transportation planning and design projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and training.
• Develop design criteria, alignments, construction plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with Project Leaders/Managers to meet client needs and standards.
• Review designs for compliance with federal/state/local regulations; sign and seal as needed.
• Perform site reviews to ensure alignment with location specs and update requirements.
• Support proposals and respond to client RFPs with quality, compliant submissions.
