Job summary

Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Inc. seeks a Highway Design Engineer / Project Manager to join our Transportation team in the Florida Panhandle. You will lead highway design efforts and manage projects from pursuit through delivery, working with clients and internal staff.

The role requires a PE in Florida, a bachelor’s in civil engineering, and proven FDOT project experience. You’ll mentor junior staff and ensure compliance with design standards and funding requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Florida.
• Willingness to travel for meetings, client consultations, and site visits.
• Experience in highway design and FDOT projects.
• Experience with design software such as MicroStation/GeoPak/OpenRoads is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support highway project delivery with an established Transportation team in the Florida Panhandle.
• Maintain close relationships with clients throughout development and after completion.
• Mentor staff to provide a positive team environment.
• Maintain understanding of regulatory programs, funding requirements, and design standards; participate in continuing education.
• Represent SEH with agencies at project and public meetings.
• Prepare project approaches, scopes and fees to complete projects.
• Present proposals to clients and participate in project interviews.
• Conduct final inspections of construction projects.
• Provide expert-level field inspections for conformance with engineering plans and specifications.

This Opportunity:

Essential Qualifications:

• This opportunity is open to candidates located near Tallahassee, Panama City, Destin, Pensacola, Fort Myers, Florida, or surrounding locations
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Florida
• Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, business development excursions, on-site inspections/visits, occasional overnight travel may be required
• Experience in highway design and construction of FDOT projects
• Design experience in any of these; Microstation/GeoPak/ORD (Open Roads Designer)

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of six (5) years design experience
• Active participation in professional organizations, conferences and technical publications
• Previous experience with a Civil Engineering Consulting firm doing design or project management

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $95,000 and $115,000 based on skill set and experience.
