About the Role

The Customer Service Assistant provides support and assistance to the highway customer service team.

What you’ll do

Assist Highway Service employees in the performance of the movement of freight (loads) by performing the following duties:

  • Perform or assist customer service personnel with tracing loads and confirming deliveries.
  • Assist customer service personnel by monitoring the movement of freight to ensure timeliness of deliveries.
  • Provide regular status reports of shipments in progress to customers as needed or required.
  • Obtain necessary or requirement documentation from vendors, customers, or service providers.
  • Review invoice accuracy, completeness, required attachments, and fuel service charges (FSCs).
  • Assist with payment exception report forms (PERFs) research, resolution, and response.
  • Assist with investigation, research, and responses to discrepancies between actual and “Profile” invoicing.
  • Regularly perform reception duties during scheduled portions of the workday by answering incoming telephone calls to the company's switchboard, directing calls to appropriate destinations, greeting visitors, and directing visitors to appropriate personnel.
  • Accurately input and edit transaction data, in a timely manner (including accessorials and discrepancies) in the Company's computerized order-entry system.

  • Comply with all company rules, policies, and procedures. Work and behave safely by following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.
You have these skills
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) or other comparable computer software programs.
  • Must consistently demonstrate professional and pleasant behavior and effectively communicate in stressful situations and/or environments.
  • Must possess and exercise excellent customer service skills at all times.
  • Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must work well with others, including vendors, suppliers, and internal and external customers to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to develop understanding of highway transportation industry.
And these qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Extra credit if you have
  • Ability to type thirty (30) or more words per minute.

The salary range is posted for this position in Illinois. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
