Job Summary:

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, and to be courteous, considerate, and prompt in serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications.

Job Duties:

• Highway Operations Worker: $18.19 Grade 14
  Entry level position involving operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, landscape preservation, roadside shoulder repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care.
• Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr. Grade 17
  Apprentice classification; trained to perform advanced duties including operation of vehicles and equipment, pavement and landscape care, roadside repairs, signing and striping, delivery, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care.
• Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr. Grade 18
  Responsible for intermediate highway operational duties and lead responsibilities, including scheduling, overseeing work, inspecting, training, and guiding staff.
• Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr. Grade 19
  Full journey classification; performs high-level highway operation duties and/or supervises staff, including scheduling, inspecting, training, and guiding.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of related experience, including operating motorized vehicles, heavy-duty equipment, signing/striping, pavement care, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care.
• Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of related experience in similar areas.
• Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of related experience.
• Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of related experience.

Selective Preference(s):

• Highway Operations Worker Requirements: Must obtain an Arizona CDL (Class A) permit within 90 days and a Class A CDL (manual transmission) within 6 months.
• Highway Operations Tech 1-3 Requirements: Must have an Arizona Class A CDL (manual or automatic) and a tanker endorsement before starting.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Registration with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse required for CDL holders.
• Must respond to emergency call outs and be able to reach the yard within 30 minutes.
• Position involves physical activity and driving as essential functions, with requirements for valid driver’s license and insurance.
• All new hires must complete E-Verify.
