Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education seeks a detail-oriented Accountant to support Bentley University’s dining services financial operations in Waltham, MA. Responsibilities include accounting, reporting, reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, payroll administration and compliance with company policies.

The ideal candidate brings strong accounting expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to provide financial insights to operational leaders for informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
• 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience with financial reporting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and budgeting.
• Experience in foodservice, hospitality, retail, higher education, or multi-unit operations preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills with pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheets).
• Perform account reconciliations and analyze balance sheet accounts.
• Review general ledger activity for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare financial reports and support month-end/year-end close.
• Assist with budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
• Analyze operating results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Monitor cash handling and perform reconciliations of cash, credit cards, and revenue.
• Support audits with documentation and reports.
• Maintain inventory accounting and cost control initiatives.
• Process and reconcile payroll data per company policies.
• Provide ad hoc analyses and leadership reports.
• Partner with dining operations to guide financial decisions.
• Ensure adherence to Compass Group and Chartwells controls and reporting standards.
