Job summary

Frequency Electronics, Inc. is seeking an experienced High Vacuum Technician to support operation, maintenance, and repair of high and ultra-high vacuum systems at our on-site facility.

You will work with pumps, gauges, and related instrumentation, troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and system integrity. The role requires hands-on experience, strong knowledge of vacuum theory and pressure measurement, precise welding, and familiarity with cleanroom procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in high or ultra-high vacuum systems.
  • Familiarity with stainless steel piping, fittings, valves, and cleanroom procedures.
  • Experience with thin film deposition, semiconductor, or scientific instrumentation environments is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Precise welding ability required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and maintain high and ultra-high vacuum systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot vacuum leaks, perform leak detection using helium mass spectrometers, and ensure system integrity.
  • Operate and maintain pumps (mechanical, turbomolecular, cryogenic, diffusion, and ion pumps).
  • Calibrate and repair vacuum gauges and controllers.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance according to schedules and detailed service records.
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to support testing and experimental setups.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and operational standards.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced High Vacuum Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of high and ultra‑high vacuum systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise with vacuum equipment, pumps, gauges, and related instrumentation, along with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain systems to ensure optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, and maintain high and ultra‑high vacuum systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot vacuum leaks, perform leak detection using helium mass spectrometers, and ensure system integrity.
  • Operate and maintain pumps (mechanical, turbomolecular, cryogenic, diffusion, and ion pumps).

Work Environment

Industrial manufacturing facility with exposure to noise, dust, and grease.

Salary

Salary Range: $115K-$135K based on experience.

We also provide a very generous paid time off policy, along with 11 paid holidays. In addition, we operate on a 9/80 work schedule, which gives employees every other Friday off. This schedule includes longer workdays—9 hours and 45 minutes with a mandatory 45‑minute lunch break. One week consists of four workdays (36 hours), and the following week includes five workdays (45 hours). Despite this variation, employees are paid for a consistent 40‑hour workweek, with weekly pay.
