Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a high school coach to provide direction to student athletes, helping them achieve skill, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Must be available after school and some weekends November–March; some summer/off-season hours required. Prepare practice plans; coordinate with Athletic Director; knowledge of MHSAA rules; attend CAP training if needed; fundraising.

Rate of pay is based on teacher contract.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Successful high school and/or college playing experience.
• Experience coaching at the high school level (Preferred).
• Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
• Prepares practice plans in advance for all scheduled practices
• Works with the Athletic Director in preparing practice and game schedules.
• Knowledge of MHSAA rules.
• Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
• Will attend MHSAA coaches training (CAP) if necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with athletes, parents and school staff.
• Ability to be in attendance at all practices, competitions, meetings and team functions.
• Willingness to fundraise.

Responsibilities

• Coach student athletes to develop skill, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.
• Provide direction and plan practices for all scheduled sessions.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director on schedules and events.
• Attend games and practices as required and ensure appropriate behavior.
• Fundraise as needed to support team activities.
• Apply CAP training if required and stay compliant with rules.
