Job summary

Detroit Community Schools is seeking an Assistant Volleyball Coach to support the athletic department and head coach in developing a competitive program. The role focuses on coaching, mentorship, and ensuring student-athletes balance athletics with academics.

The ideal candidate will have prior volleyball coaching experience at the high school, club, or college level, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive sports environment.

Qualifications

• Coaching experience at high school, club, or college level.
• Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, strategies, and techniques.
• Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
• Commitment to a supportive and educational athletic environment.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices and games.
• Help develop and implement strategies and game plans.
• Provide individualized coaching and mentorship to student-athletes to enhance skills and performance.
• Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
• Ensure adherence to safety and sportsmanship standards during all practices and competitions.
• Monitor the academic performance of student-athletes and support their educational development.
• Coordinate logistics, including travel, equipment, and scheduling, in conjunction with the head coach and athletic department.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team environment.
