Job Summary:

Sacred Hearts Academy seeks an innovative, creative, and student-centered educator to develop and lead a dynamic Digital & Creative Media program. This teacher will inspire students to become ethical storytellers, skilled creators, and confident communicators through courses such as Journalism, Video Production, Broadcasting, Podcasting, Digital Photography, and Graphic Design.

This teacher will use project-based learning, integrate emerging technologies, and cultivate creativity while helping students develop technical expertise, collaboration skills, and digital citizenship. This position offers the opportunity to build an engaging creative media program that showcases student voice and supports the school's mission through authentic storytelling and communication through the use of our Creative Media Wing in partnership with Moʻolelo Studios.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Film, Media Arts, Education, or a closely related field(from an accredited institution)
  • One year of experience working with high school-aged students – OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in one or more of the following content areas:
    • Journalism
    • Video Production
    • Broadcasting
    • Podcasting
    • Photography
    • Graphic Design
  • Demonstrated proficiency with current media production technologies
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
  • Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take direction from supervisors and clients.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
  • Able to work all required shifts and possible extended hours.
  • Ability to implement a faith-based curriculum consistent with the Academy’s Catholic mission.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Digital Media, Communications, Journalism, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Professional experience in journalism, broadcasting, filmmaking, graphic design, photography, marketing, communications, or digital media production.
  • Experience advising student publications, news programs, broadcast studios, or media organizations.
  • Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary curriculum design.
  • Familiarity with AI-enhanced creative tools and responsible integration of artificial intelligence in education.
  • Experience teaching in a one-to-one technology environment.
  • Knowledge of social media content creation and digital branding.
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning and innovation.

Other Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of the subject area(s) to be taught and ability to develop interdisciplinary curriculum related to subject matter.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods that are age-appropriate for assigned grade levels.
  • Ability to work with and encourage students in the assigned grade levels toward accomplishing their personalized educational goals.
  • Ability to differentiate and personalize instruction to meet varying student needs.
  • Manage small and large groups of students in various instructional environments.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, and school administrators.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
  • A successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Classroom Management (70%)

  • Implement teacher-provided lesson plans in digital and creative media courses.
  • Supports student learning and development through written, verbal, and hands- on coaching and modeling in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Work in close harmony with the administration and with each other.
  • Be responsible for the assigned students' instruction.
  • Responsible for the immediate supervision and safety of students during class time, advisory, the assigned time of supervision duty, and on off-campus school excursions.
  • Review and administer corrections for student misconduct.
  • Require mannerly and respectful behavior from students.
  • Respect individual differences among students and formulate plans to address these differences.
  • Attend all faculty, department, and parent-teacher meetings.
  • Be responsible for the classroom's cleanliness.
  • Maintain high standards of professional and personal conduct, including online presence.
  • Communicate with students via email or phone only for school-related concerns.
  • Participate in or attend consultation meetings with parents and students to address concerns or other class-related issues.
  • High school teachers will have supervisory duties during recess or lunch periods and auto-line, as assigned by the Administration.
  • Serve as an advisor to one student club as necessary.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and classwork, and submit student evaluations, including report cards and grade updates, at scheduled times.
  • Distribute and collect required forms, records, or correspondence.

2. School Activities (20%)

  • Responsible to attend all masses and faculty meetings; where applicable teacher will attend faculty in-service training sessions, retreats, assemblies, and school functions to include: Academy ceremonies such as graduation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement, Spring Open House, Fall Open House, Faculty Beginning of the School Year In-Service, Faculty Retreat, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Annual Conference for Catholic Educators, Faith Formation, admissions testing, parent events and supervision of Academy-sponsored student events such as dances, Freshman Mother/Daughter Banquet, Sophomore Father/Daughter; Junior Prom, Senior Prom, Senior Ohana Luncheon, Academy Uncorked, and performances.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)

  • Serves as community relations liaison for the company.
  • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
Compensation
  • Class (Education): Placement is based on educational attainment. We also recognize coursework beyond a bachelor’s or master’s degree; official transcripts are reviewed to confirm final placement.
  • Step (Experience): Placement is primarily based on direct experience within the Catholic school system. Relevant professional experience is also considered within the framework of the established salary schedule.
