Qualifications

• Knowledge of SCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum and effective instructional practices.
• Knowledge of Spanish language, culture, literature, and instructional strategies appropriate for teaching Spanish at high school level.
• Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
• Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Teaches subject area according to curriculum guidelines based on Maryland Learner Outcomes, Core Learning Goals and Skills for Success.
• Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs.
• Plans and implements lessons with essential components of a good lesson as defined by SCPS.
• Incorporates Dimensions of Learning and Maryland Learner Outcomes into daily instruction.
• Uses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies.
• Diagnoses the learning needs of students to prescribe learning objectives.
• Uses technology as an integral part of instruction.
• Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of instructional approaches.
• Develops classroom rules and maintains order.
• Protects students, equipment, and facilities.
• Resolves problems with students and parents.
• Participates in school management and total program.
• Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers.
• Reports student progress objectively to students and parents.
• Maintains records as required by law and SCPS policy.
• Requisitions textbooks and instructional materials.
• Establishes respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on committees.
• Maintains professional competence.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
