Overview

Responsibilities
  • Administers and develops subject‑specific assessments to assess student competency and develop individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents/legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations and achievements, and reinforcing classroom goals at home.
  • Assesses student progress towards standards and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom/subject‑specific assignments, addressing individual student requirements.
  • Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior, providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in various educational settings (classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in meetings and professional development activities to convey and gather information required for performance.
  • Prepares written materials (grades, lesson plans, correspondence, examinations, quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records) to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses, etc.) to maintain safety and comply with state law and board policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Directs teacher assistants, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Supports other classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
  • Demonstrates and models integration of technology in all curriculum areas.
  • Follows a plan for professional technology development and seeks opportunities for professional growth.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee teaching certificate.
  • Highly qualified teacher.
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.
  • Governance under the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, effective supervision, assistance, and interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control equipment, machinery, tools, and materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculate decimals and percentages, use principles of fractions, and interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems, philosophies, laws, regulations, and procedures; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations evaluating information against measurable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs.
