Job summary

Community High School District 218 is seeking a High School Social Studies Teacher to deliver engaging, inquiry-driven instruction aligned with Illinois standards. The role emphasizes critical thinking, historical analysis, civic responsibility, and media literacy in a diverse classroom.

The successful candidate will design standards-based curricula, utilize primary sources, and foster civil discourse while collaborating with colleagues and PLCs to continuously improve student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must hold IL PEL for Secondary Social Science (Grades 9–12).
• Experience with inquiry-based learning and primary source analysis.
• Ability to facilitate civil discourse in a diverse high school setting.

Responsibilities

• Design standards-based social studies curricula and daily lesson plans.
• Incorporate inquiry-based and source-analysis strategies.
• Deliver civics and democratic process instruction with structured discussion.
• Assess student mastery using formative and summative tools.
• Create an inclusive classroom promoting respectful debate and curiosity.
• Collaborate with Social Studies Department and PLCs to align curriculum.
