Job summary

Uncommon Schools Newark seeks a High School Science teacher to deliver instruction across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science with a focus on inquiry, student discourse, and rigorous lab work.

You will collaborate with the Science department, analyze student work weekly, and support both academic and social-emotional growth while working toward New Jersey certification eligibility.

Qualifications

• Commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development.
• Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
• Self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives.
• Experience/interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1–2 years preferred).
• Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Instruction: teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences and prepare students for AP and college coursework; foster evidence-based discourse and inquiry-based labs.
• Data Analysis: meet weekly with principal/coach to analyze student work and differentiate instruction.
• School Culture: build positive relationships with students and families; participate in weekly meetings and school-wide events; support core values.
