Job summary

Norwalk Public Schools is seeking a Science teacher for grades 9-12 to support the Future Ready Program for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on student-centered, problem-based learning, collaborating in a small, diverse setting, and delivering engaging science instruction aligned with the district's standards.

Responsibilities include following the approved scope and sequence, preparing objective-driven plans, managing the classroom, communicating with parents, and using assessments

Qualifications

• Active Science-related Certification as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
• Bachelor's Degree in Education or in Sciences.
• Experience in a multi-cultural setting.
• Ability to teach high school classes; experience with team teaching; urban experience.

Responsibilities

• Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education.
• Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines.
• Manage the classroom and student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment.
• Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom.
• Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Science.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
• Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
• Assess student learning continually and identify interventions as needed.
• Keep parents up-to-date on student progress through interim reports, report cards, and conferences.
• Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through individual and small-group settings.
• Design and implement assessments that measure progress and refine curriculum and instructional practices.
• Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between teacher and learner.
• Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.
• Maintain ongoing communication with parents.
• Assist in selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships.
• Participate in professional learning to improve instructional practice.
