Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, etc.).
  • Must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary science endorsement.
  • Experience teaching in middle school and high school settings is preferred.
  • Experience in urban education settings is desirable.
  • Training in CRPBIS, Amplify Science, and related instructional methodologies is preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion and expertise in physical sciences, chemistry, life sciences, and other secondary science content.

  • Provide world-class science instruction to middle and high school students.
  • Use data to guide and differentiate instruction effectively.
  • Grow professionally by applying feedback from leaders, colleagues, students, and PD sessions.
  • Build relationships with students and parents to maintain a safe, welcoming learning environment.
  • Fulfill other duties as needed to support the district mission.

Job description

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK‑12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring new science teachers. This individual will ensure our students receive world‑class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. Teachers must work to build inclusive, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, etc.)
  • Previous experience working with middle school and high school students
  • Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary science endorsement (e.g., DI, DX, or DQ preferred but possible to accept IA, IC, IE, IH, IP or any of the other phased‑out subject‑specific endorsements)
  • Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Training in CRPBIS, Amplify Science, and other related instructional methodologies
  • Demonstrated passion for and expertise in physical sciences, chemistry, life sciences, and other secondary science content

  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
Physical Demands
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
  • Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families.
  • May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students.
  • Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication.
  • Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
