Job summary

Empowerment Academy Charter School is hiring a High School Science Support Teacher/TA to assist in 9th and 10th grade science classes. The ideal candidate has a science background and aims to become a science teacher in the future, with an ASAP start for the current school year and beyond.

Base salary ranges from $44,000 to $60,000, with a strong emphasis on teacher supports and a collaborative, PLC-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Candidate holds a Substitute Certificate issued by the NJDOE (or is willing to apply and obtain it upon hire).
• 2 years minimum of college with Science courses (60 credits) and 2 years minimum of classroom experience; or a BA in a Science field and 1 year experience working with children.
• Strong knowledge in Science at the High School level.
• Experience with differentiation and teaching students of various abilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

Empowerment Academy Charter School is hiring a High School Science Support Teacher/ TA at Empowerment’s High School. You will support in 9th and 10th Grade Science Classes and must be comfortable with Science Content. We prefer someone with a Science Background who is ultimately looking to become a Science Teacher in the future.

This is for the current school year and beyond, so we are looking for someone who can begin ASAP.

Base Salary: $44,000-$60,000

TEACHER SUPPORTS

Teachers at Empowerment Academy are part of a school-wide team. They receive career-long coaching and professional development support from school leaders; work with their peers in professional learning communities (PLCs) to plan lessons and solve problems; and partner with an array of specialists to meet scholars’ diverse needs.

Examples of such teacher supports include:

• Abundant planning periods during the school day;
• A research-based curriculum and supporting curricular materials;
• High-quality formative assessments, aligned with the curriculum, that help identify when students have not achieved mastery of a skill, concept, or knowledge item; and
• Full-time reading and math specialists who tutor students struggling to master an essential skill, and counselors and social workers who help students struggling with non-academic problems.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

We generally seek the same qualities in assistant teachers that we seek in lead teachers. This is because oftentimes our assistant teachers become lead teachers within our school! While a CE or Teaching Certificate in Science issued by the NJDOE is a major bonus, it is not required. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore if teaching is for you, to earn a good income, and grow in skill while exploring the profession.

• Candidate holds a Substitute Certificate issued by the NJDOE(or is willing to apply and get one immediately upon begin hired)
• 2 years minimum of college with Science Courses included (60 credits) and 2 years minimum of experience in a classroom; or a BA in a Science field and 1 year experience working with children
• Strong knowledge and formal schooling as it pertains to Sceince at the High School Level
• Experience with differentiation and teaching students of various abilities would be a significant plus
