Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 seeks a High School Science Department Coordinator to provide leadership and organizational support for science education at the high school level. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Initiate communication with the Division Chair regarding departmental topics and share information with outside parties for transparency and support.
  • Review and contribute to weekly Department Coordinator and Division Chair meeting agendas.
  • Contribute input for annual Department Work Plan Goals.
  • Facilitate department meetings in the Division Chair's absence.
  • Provide scheduling recommendations for rooms, course offerings, and master schedule development.
  • Assist with school activities outside the contractual day as needed (e.g., events, ceremonies).
  • Review student data with the Division Chair to support teachers.
  • Maintain professional development and staff training needs for department staff.
  • Monitor and analyze department data relating to PLCs, IITs, and district goals.
  • Maintain textbook and course material documents.
  • Suggest hiring, training, and development of support staff within the department.
  • Assist with student teacher appointments and communications with universities and internal staff.
  • Support other departmental tasks as they arise and uphold leadership expectations.

Purpose: Provide support, organization and leadership for a content area. Serve as an informed resourcein
best instructional practices for high school learning and teaching in that content area. Assist department
members and school and district leaders in developing a collaborative culture focused on student growth.

Essential Functions: The Department Coordinator...

  1. Initiates communication with the Division Chair regarding departmental topics as they arise. Includes
    the Division Chair in communications with outside parties regarding departmental items for
    transparency and support.
  2. Reviews and contributes to weekly meeting agenda documents between the Division Chair and the
    Department Coordinator.
  3. Provides input for annual Department Work Plan Goals
  4. Facilitates department meetings in the absence of the division chair.
  5. Provides suggestions to the Division Chair for room assignments, course offerings, teaching
    assignments, and development of the master schedule.
  6. Coordinate and attend school activities outside of the contractual day as needed
    (e.g. Student of the Month, Freshman Rising Night, etc.)
  7. Reviews various student data with the Division Chair to support teachers as needed.
  8. Maintains professional learning, training, and staff development in-service training needs for teachers
    and other staff within the department.
  9. Assist Division Chair with monitoring and analyzing department data as it relates to PLCs, IITs, department,
    building, and District goals.
  10. Maintains the textbook/course material documents as needed.
  11. Provides suggestions for hiring, training, and development of any support staff within the department.
  12. Assists with student teacher appointments: may lead communications with universities and internal staff members.
  13. Supports other departmental tasks as they arise.
  14. Represents the expectations of leadership and professionalism for the department.
Department Specific Functions:
  1. Assist in coordination of lab materials - including, but not limited to, organizing & maintaining
    content-specific equipment, maintaininga spreadsheet of existing supplies (both consumable and
    non-consumable),communicating need for purchasing consumables with DC when appropriate,
    communicating need for updating or repairing non-consumable equipment, etc
