Position Summary

The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for creating a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that promotes mathematical understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. The teacher delivers standards-aligned instruction, monitors student progress, differentiates learning to meet diverse student needs, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and administrators to support student achievement and well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district and state curriculum.
• Teach assigned mathematics courses, which may include advanced mathematics courses.
• Develop lessons that promote conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving.
• Differentiate instruction to address varying learning styles, abilities, and student needs.
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and evidence-based practices to increase student engagement and achievement.
• Incorporate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections into mathematics instruction.
• Foster a classroom culture that encourages inquiry, collaboration, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity.

Assessment and Student Progress

• Design and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning.
• Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
• Provide meaningful, timely feedback to students.
• Develop intervention and enrichment opportunities based on student performance.

Classroom Management

• Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
• Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility and positive behavior.
• Maintain high expectations for student conduct and academic integrity.

Collaboration and Communication

• Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
• Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and school committees.
• Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain current knowledge of mathematics content, instructional best practices, and educational technology.
• Participate in professional development activities and apply new learning to instructional practice.
• Comply with all district policies, state regulations, and professional ethical standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Qualifications

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field.

Required Certification

• Valid North Carolina state teaching certification/licensure in Secondary Mathematics or eligible for North Carolina teaching license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
• Experience teaching multiple levels of high school mathematics.
• Experience using instructional technology and digital learning platforms.
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
• Experience working with diverse student populations.
